(The Center Square) – A special interest group is not happy with news that Nevada’s secretary of state received seven election-related subpoenas from the FBI.
All Voting is Local said this marks a “dramatic escalation in the Trump administration’s ongoing efforts to control state-run elections” in the U.S.
“As the midterms continue to inch closer, the Trump administration’s attempts to meddle in Nevada’s elections are growing more desperate,” said All Voting is Local Nevada State Director Kerry Durmick in a press release. “The desperate attempts to gain access to private voter roll information, peddle debunked conspiracy theories, and force election officials to comply with likely illegal executive orders around vote-by-mail are not a signal of strength; they are a signal of weakness, as this administration is trying to find a shred of any sort of evidence to back its lies about our elections in an attempt to control them.”
Durmick added that, in Nevada, All Voting is Local believes that every voter should be able to vote safely, free from intimidation, and know their vote counted.
“We will not allow Trump to come in and try to dictate our elections,” said Durmick.
Durmick discussed the issue further during an interview with The Center Square.
She said federal attempts to control state elections do not surprise her. "Basically, since January 2025, the Trump administration has done everything possible to meddle in Nevada's elections."
"It's very clear that just they're using threat after threat after threat to intimidate not just our secretary of state, but also our state and also our voters," Durmick told The Center Square. "And this is all an attempt really to try to control our state-run election."
The Center Square reached out to the White House for comment.
“Despite extreme Democrats and the media claiming it never happens, the evidence of non-citizens registering and voting in our elections continues to pile up," White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis told The Center Square in an email. "Any non-citizens found registering and voting in our elections will be arrested and held accountable. Only Americans should be electing American leaders.”
President Donald Trump has, on many occasions, expressed concern about voter fraud. Trump also wants new actions taken on mail-in ballots to ensure election integrity.
But Durmick told The Center Square that Nevada has seen less than 1% of any kind of voting fraud during the last 10 years.
"There not widespread fraud," Durmick said. "And they really just want to control elections at the federal level, which is, of coruse, illegal. It's unconstitutional."
The Nevada Secretary of State’s Office confirmed to The Center Square that it received “seven voter-related DOJ subpoenas from the FBI over the last three months.” At this time, the office said it is unable to provide further information.
“The right to vote is written clearly in the constitution, and we cannot take that right away without the highest confidence of a person’s ineligibility,” Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar said in a statement provided to The Center Square. “The federal administration is inundating election offices with investigations and questions ahead of the election, and making sweeping claims of election fraud to the public before any investigation is done. We will continue standing up for Nevada voters and remain focused on running a safe, secure and transparent election this fall.”
